Ramya joined the Desai lab as a postdoc in Feb 2017. She completed her PhD with Mukund Thattai at National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bengaluru, India in 2016. During her PhD, she worked to understand the role of gene duplication towards evolution of eukaryotes from a prokaryote-like ancestor. Currently, she is studying how mutation rate affects different aspects of adaptation within the context of the fitness landscape of the environment under study. She is addressing this using an experimental evolution approach using yeast as her model system.
